The North Portal outdoor rink was built in memory of Kyle MacKenzie, a young boy killed in a farming accident. Over the past 20 years, volunteer, Michael Yurkowski, has maintained the ice surface for children young and old to enjoy. Starting as a teenager, Michael has been dedicated to providing a place for our community to skate. Many of our children have learned to skate here and have gone on to play hockey and other ice sports in Estevan and beyond. The village would like to recognize Michael for his years of work in the cold.
