Fierce Female Hockey

To build female hockey, you need systems and spaces that put females at the centre. I am doing this with FIERCE FEMALE HOCKEY (FFH), a social enterprise created April 2022. FFH offers an all-female playing AND coaching environment for grassroots community players at our youngest levels (U7 and U9 age groups). FFH embraces the idea of “See it, be it.” It layers role modelling through volunteer-based instruction that is ALL FEMALE. FFH held its inaugural camp in Brandon, MB in early June. The camp sold out in under two weeks. We had 133 FIERCE FEMALES attending and over 40+ FEMALE VOLUNTEERS on and off the ice! The rink was packed with FEMALE FIERCENESS and before it was even over, people were asking when the next one was happening! FFH is making a big impact. Here is feedback from a U18AAA player who volunteered:
“Growing up I would have given anything to have an all female camp with all female role models and its crazy to think that I have become one. I had girls coming up to me asking if they could have an autograph as if I was a superstar! That made me realize how important it is for us to advocate for the future of girls in sport.” With additional funding, FFH could extend its reach to more remote locations in Manitoba to help cover travel and accommodation costs. FFH could also leverage funds to ensure registration fees are kept low and financially accessible. FFH info here: https://www.facebook.com/fiercefemalehockey.
