Being able to practice your favourite sport shouldn’t be something that you stop after aging out of minor hockey programs. Most women don’t have the opportunity to continue their development within the sport they grew up loving due to lack of programs offered. At the University of Ottawa, our Intramurals team would like to create a program for women in hockey to continue to develop and practice their skills on a weekly basis. We would like to offer a wide variety of on and off ice training with the help of Varsity Athletics, providing programs for a wide range of skill levels, such as beginner, intermediate and advanced hockey players. Every week, they will have the opportunity to join a one-hour session where they’ll be working on a targeted skill, whether it be shooting, skating, puck skills, scrimmages, and off ice conditioning. Most of us forget the impact that minor sports programs have had on our lives and being able to continue progressing and developing within the sport, all while making new friendships along the way is something that we would like to offer hockey players at out University. We would love the chance to create a program for Women in Hockey.
